Core feature — iOS · Android · macOS · Windows

Browse the web through your computer. From anywhere.

The Browser feature in AutoYou is an HTTP proxy tunneled through your encrypted WebRTC connection. Every request travels to your computer, which fetches the page and sends it back. Websites see your computer's IP — not your phone's. No VPN. No open ports. No router configuration.

This isn't a VPN. AutoYou doesn't route all your phone's traffic through your computer. The Browser tab is a targeted HTTP proxy — only the requests you make inside it go through your machine. Everything else on your phone (other apps, background traffic) is unaffected.

Under the hood

Six steps from URL to page.

The AutoYou browser proxy is straightforward by design. Here's exactly what happens when you type a URL or tap a link.

  1. You enter a URL in the Browser tab on your phone or press Open Browser in the desktop client.
  2. Your device packages the request — the HTTP method, headers, and any body — into a message.
  3. The message travels through the encrypted WebRTC DataChannel directly to your computer. This is the same channel your chat messages use. It's SCTP-encrypted, peer-to-peer, and never touches a third-party server.
  4. Your computer makes the actual HTTP request to the website, using your machine's network connection and IP address.
  5. The response travels back through the same encrypted channel to your device. Large responses are chunked and reassembled automatically.
  6. Your device renders the page. On mobile, it displays in the built-in browser view. On the desktop client, your system browser opens at the proxy URL.

This works for standard HTML pages, streaming responses (Server-Sent Events), and binary downloads like files and images. SSE and WebSocket connections work too, which is how AI agent dashboards with live updates stay responsive.

What becomes accessible

The web. And everything on your machine.

The browser proxy gives you access to two very different things at once: the entire public web (through your computer's IP), and anything running locally on your machine that you'd never normally reach from your phone.

The public web

Your IP. Your network.

Any URL you open in the Browser tab is fetched by your computer. Websites see your home or office IP address. Content that's geo-restricted to your location is accessible exactly as if you were sitting at your desk. No VPN subscription. No separate app.

Local services

Port 3000. Port 8080. Anything.

Any web service running on your computer — a React app, a Grafana dashboard, a Jupyter notebook, a home automation panel, a local API — is reachable by navigating to localhost:PORT in the Browser tab. It works from anywhere in the world, without opening a single port on your router.

AI agent frontends

Your agents. On a screen.

AutoYou's built-in AI agents each have a web frontend hosted on your computer. The Browser tab connects you to those UIs from anywhere — browse your Notes, view your Official Page feed, manage your agent settings — all through the encrypted P2P connection.

Built-in shortcut

Agent Websites. One tap to your AI frontends.

The AutoYou server hosts web frontends for each of its AI agents. Instead of typing a URL, you can jump straight to them.

On mobile

Open Agent Websites from the Chat toolbar

In the Chat tab, the Open Agent Websites button takes you directly to the index of all AI agent frontends hosted on your server. From there you can browse into Notes, the Official Page feed, the Admin panel, or any custom agent UI you've created — all served through the encrypted proxy.

The mobile browser renders these as full web views. Dashboards with live updates, forms, and navigation all work because the proxy handles streaming and stateful connections.

On desktop

Open in your system browser

In the AutoYou desktop client (macOS & Windows), the Open Agent Websites button opens your system browser to the agent frontends page — served locally at the client's web proxy port. And Open Browser opens the proxy root, where you can navigate freely to any URL through your server connection.

These controls become available as soon as the desktop client is connected. They're disabled when no server connection is active.

macOS & Windows

Browser access from the desktop client.

The AutoYou desktop client runs on macOS and Windows and provides the same encrypted server connection as the mobile app. Browser access works differently on desktop — instead of an in-app browser view, the client exposes a local web proxy and hands off to your system browser.

Open Browser

Your system browser. Your proxy.

Clicking Open Browser in the desktop client launches your default system browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) and navigates it to the local proxy root. From there you can browse freely — any request goes through your AutoYou server connection, just as on mobile.

Open Agent Websites

Jump straight to your AI frontends.

Open Agent Websites takes you directly to the agent frontends index on your server — bypassing the need to type a URL. This button is only enabled when connected to a full AutoYou server (not an autoyou_lib standalone instance without agent frontends configured).

Configurable port

Run the proxy where you need it.

The desktop client's local web proxy port is configurable — the default is 8076, but you can change it in the connection settings if that port is already in use on your machine. The proxy only runs while the client is connected to a server.

Your browsing. Entirely yours.

The AutoYou browser proxy is end-to-end. Your phone sends requests over the encrypted WebRTC DataChannel to your computer, and your computer makes the outbound web request. AutoYou's servers never see the URLs you visit, the pages you load, or any response content. The cloud has no role in this pipeline.

When you access a local service — a dashboard running on localhost:3000, for example — that traffic never leaves your machine at all. It travels from your phone over the P2P tunnel to your computer, and your computer hits its own local port. Nothing is exposed to the internet.
